London

Thanks for suppporting Architecture Week 2007

Thank you to everyone who put on an event in London, who contributed via sponsorship and to those of you who managed to attend the spread of exciting events across the capital.

Supporting RIBA’s campaign for a sustainable Greener Future, RIBA London’s focus for Architecture Week was Walking into a Greener London. Using our bespoke Architecture Week Ordnance Survey map of London, RIBA London encouraged participants to take a walking tour of London, visiting RIBA Award-winning buildings, stopping at Architecture Week events and taking in the glorious green open spaces along the way.

The highlights included:

Sonic Shed listening to the subtle sounds of yorkshire from under the Westway in Portobello market.

Architects in Residence Exhibition showing the work of London students from 15 primary and secondary schools, who developed proposals for a greener London neighbourhood or locality with the help of Architects in Residence.

Tours of RIBA Award winning buildings.

Greener Offices a workshop on how to make your office green with Global Action Plan.

SKM Engineering in ARCH-itecture Open to all aspiring engineers, children and adults enjoyed a hands on workshopthis builing an arched tunnel large enough to walk through entirely from paper. The event also included displays, interactive activities, demonstrations and competitions.

Hides in the Park 6 architect designed bird hides were specially designed and built for AW07 at Battersea Park from 15-24 June. The design teams flexed their creative muscles with their very different approaches to bird hide design. One hide is now housed at the Barnes Wetland centre, several are at the art space at the Westway Trust, and two remain as a permanent feature at Battersea Park.
